You are doing great! Being a practical person, I wanted to make three points to you:
1) Order a roll of Reflectixs paper and keep it in your van. It will come in handy to keep your van cooler/hotter and also if you ever rent a vehicle in the future, you can use it as a blanket or windows.
2) Consider this incident, as a foreshadow of inevitable van-life happenings travel. You should get a bug out bag, specifically for out of van experiences ready to go. Include everything from pjs to food and meds. It is stressful enough when you have to leave your van for repairs and having a bag ready to go is soooooo much easier. It does not make the stress of repairs or emergency exits easy BUT it does not add more stress to an already uncomfortable situation. It is nice to know if you end up in a hotel or rental car or camping in a tent you do not have to drive around for headache meds or fem stuff or a can opener, or a collapsible container for waste or paper towel or a flashlight or backup charger or extra socks/shoes or sunglasses or a spoon or a spice or a written record of all van home repairs so you can provide good history or and the list goes on and on. It sounds like a lot of work but keeping all your important life-sustaining stuff in a bug out bag versus storage places in your van MAKES it even easier to find when you live in a van. You have to practice living out of a bug out van to truly embrace minimalism. Since you don't have a pet, I would keep the bag on the floor of the passenger seat.
Important Takeaway: It does not matter if you live in a car, van, or home. A bug out bag is a necessity in today's times.
Also, collect items, do a test run in your van and THEN buy a bug out bag, to fit the items. Once you start hiking or walking the track again; practice carrying the bag on your back. Easier to get that walk/hike in if you have a goal of being able to walk with a bug out backpack.
What you went through is a foreshadowing of a future similar events.
I forgot to THREE lessons I learned the way: Make sure you have a portable, water filter bottle. The BEST money can buy and put a warranty on it and TEST it out. (Given what happened in Ohio derailment: i would want some filter on hand.) Throw in a water tester for 20 bucks. It sounds crazy until you have stomach cramps and realise (much later) it was the water. Securing it to your bug out bag takes practice and trial and error. The second equally important item is it takes PRACTICE to pack up your bug out bag in a decent amount of time. Keep a list on the outside pocket of all the items, so you can REMEMBER all the items you have. Practice using your bug out bag BEFORE you need it. USE it in your van.
After Hurricane Katrina, even though I have less than 1% risk of a hurricanes, I decided to make an exit bag for emergencies.
Perhaps you can also make a bag for this too or combine the two.
If you search on the net, you can find tons of lists. From those lists you use what is applicable to you.
I used a school backpack because it has many pockets to put stuff in and it's easy to carry.
I also added umbrellas. They can cover you from sun and rain.
It's also great to have a money stash. You decide on the amount. I put a roll of quarters and small bills in a ziploc.
Since you use your meds, vitamins possibly every day, you should put them in a ziploc or a lunch bag use them daily from the bag so that way you just grab them and go.
Whew!
Yes we need to learn to appreciate what we have!
I don't know if you are back in your van yet, but I got a little camping stove at the dollar store. You could see if you can get one for a warm meal.
Nomi, I had to admit that I felt so bad for you after watching you preparing your meals in your car. I just wanted to give you a hug and assure you that things will get back to normal before you know it. Since I have a loved one who plans on going full-time RVing soon, I pictured her being in that situation and the idea of seeing her in that situation made me sad and it created in me much compassion for you. But reading this article put me in remembrance of your tenacity and your ability to accept the things you can't change and live through it with a thankful attitude and grateful heart. You've demonstrated that attitude time and time again.
Please know that you are a huge inspiration to so many people who are living the RV lifestyle as well as those who are not. Your no-nonsense approach to life is a motivator for so many people. From you, people learn the realities of van life - good and bad. So many Youtubers are only showing the flashy side of van life, but you consistently concentrate on preparing new and future RVers for what's to come; and your fans sincerely appreciate your transparency, and love you as a result. Thanks for being exactly who you are. And as you know - you're never alone. God's GOT you!
I watched you recent video of you taking your (Baby) as you call you home on wheels in your videos many times, so I got to see how you made the front seat into a nice bed, and just how creative you are with the food. I so enjoyed it. I thought just dump the juice from the beans etc out the window but then you said why not to as it might attract animals which I had not thought of. I look forward to your lives and each video and I enjoy your cooking and having your meals with us and I have got many ideas 💡 from you for 1 person meals as my husband passed away last year. Just I can't use all the cool heat, spices that you use but I bet they taste great. I try many new foods now yes because of you and I am so enjoying 😉 them, so thanks Nomi so much and hurry up and get that cool van back so the end of February can be here and you will be on the road again. We all respect you for your privacy and I do not need to know your name as what you share is awesome. Safe travels.
To me you were not complaining. You have every right to feel the way you feel. Yes things happen the same as if you were not living in a home on wheels. I love your channel.
As always Nomi, loved your New York and Jersey content, you had me in stitches with your attempt at the Jersey accent, it really was pretty good ! Thanks for taking us with you, you have so many of us travelling with you, stay safe and prayers for your safe travels, hang in there, you’ll have your baby back soon and you’ll be back on the road !!
The best cheesecake is at Juniors just off Times Square. And you haven't had a real Philly cheesesteak until you go to Philly itself where you will find the original at Geno's where the secret is cheese whiz and peppers and onions.
I understand being grateful. There was a time in my life when I lost everything and lived at the Salvation Army for about a year. I didn't see it then, but I have grown in the intervening years. I still was alive and healthy - I had family, although distant, and I had people (who were strangers) that were willing to get me back on my feet. I practice humility to keep me "right size" on the daily. When I forget to be grateful my whole attitude is trash. When I remember I can have peace. I pray that God blesses and keeps you during this difficult time and always.
You are blessed! We can see that you have a very good heart and you’re a good person. We pray for your safety and security and can’t wait to follow your next adventure in the sunshine state!
I enjoy you in the van. Like you said and did not give the car away. Making temporary arrangements and soon back in the van. I hope it's a minor problem and you still under warranty.
There is always someone who is worse off than you. Sometimes we just have to be reminded of that. I love your content. I'm really considering getting one to live in. Thank you for showing us how it really is to live full time in one. Stay humble and blessed. Stay safe.
Yes, God does have a way in reminding us that there are blessing weaved beautifully through our trials. As the well rounded individual you are, you are doing a phenomenal job and it shows in everything you bring to the table. You are doing things I couldn’t imagine (living in a car). HOWEVER, when I once dreamed of owning a big family home, I now find myself really admiring smaller, minimalistic homes. One day...
I do hope you are able to get your home back soon and get back to living the life you’ve always dreamed of. Blessings of safety and pure contentment to you!🙏🏼💗
Hi! Very well said, and so important for all of us to remember! I've followed you from the very beginning of your adventures in your home on wheels. I admire you for your strength, motivation. You are a brave and driven woman. A few days in the car will be challenging, but you can do it. God is good! Think of the positive things that can come from this. You are so blessed to have that beautiful van and car. Everything happens for a reason. God knows what he's doing. Just a couple more days to go... God bless you and keep you safe. Love and hugs, Tonda and Buckey in Ohio ❤️🤗🐕😊
Important reminder!!! I try to practice gratitude daily with every moment I can. It keeps the negativity away. 😊😊😊💙💙💙
